I have had the pleasure to spend the day in the vineyards and winery with Massimiliano and the passionate team at Santa Margherita. Their attention to detail with all aspects of the winemaking industry is to be seen to be believed. From incredible foresight and investment in sustainable viticulture, underground irrigation, the use of biomass and solar energy production and use and even making their own 'light-weight' wine bottles

The relationship between Champagne Pol Roger and Sir Winston Churchill dates back to a luncheon given by the British Ambassador to France after the liberation of Paris in 1944. At which was served the stunning 1928 vintage Pol Roger. Also attending was Odette Pol-Roger, with whom they had an instant rapport. A friendship of families which continued until Churchill’s death in 1965; and which is still as strong to this day.

The team at Matawhero have been going from strength to strength over the past few years. Chenin Blanc is one of the classic grape varieties of the world - though still slightly lost in translation here in New Zealand.

This past July I spent an intensive month travelling through many of the wine regions in France. Starting in Bordeaux and ending a successful tour in Reims at the Champagne House of Piper & Charles Heidsieck. I have had the pleasure on more than a few occasions - and each time it’s like Christmas for adults - as you have this incredible excitement for what is going to be opened and the moment being shared with special people.
