Grape Varietal: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand
Owner / Winemaker: Ben Glover

The name Zephyr refers to the prevailing seasonal winds that complement Marlborough’s unique growing conditions. Zephyr wines embrace and showcase the dynamic spirit of the ‘Glover Family’ along with the lively aromatics and flavours they achieve from their estate vines. The family vineyards were originally planted in 1985 alongside the meandering Opawa River, which has been a source of the family’s passion for wine.

This is a single vineyard wine gown on Dillon’s Point Road - situated in the lower Wairau Valley in Marlborough, just 5 minutes east of Blenheim. The site is renowned for its impressive tautness in its youth, though this distinctive feature allows the wine to age.
Ben and the family worked long days - harvesting the fruit before and between the weather extremes. Even though it was not a typical growing season - the delicate fruit that did arrive into the winery still contains classic Marlborough DNA - the core of the fruit and each site expressing a more pip and citrus fruit spectrum, than the tropical.
The fruit for this wine came off 3 sub-blocks of which the ‘Deer Block’ makes up around 85% of the final blend - and was picked before the major rain event which hit on the 3rd April. The remainder came off the ‘Stop-Bank’ and ‘Tennis Court’ Blocks and were harvested after the first rain event but before the second, which dumped 90mls.
The ‘Tennis Court’ block is dry farmed and was planted in 1991 - this parcel typically brings structure and palate texture to the blend. And it is this farming and vine age that has helped the fruit come through a very testing growing season and critical harvest period. With not one but three cyclones hitting the region during the final few weeks.
It was a challenging vintage - Ben has crafted a Sauvignon Blanc which has settled nicely and is ready to brighten any occasion plus will age well. Expressing the season - a little more delicate, and continental in style if compared with previous vintages.
In your glass, you will be greeted by a shining, pale straw colour with a lime hue. Already a bright and inviting nose - with classic lifted Marlborough herbaceous aromatics of freshly cut green capsicum, nettle, tomato leaf, gooseberries and a good note of citrus.
These characters carry onto the light and invigorating palate - the flavours are tight and lean at moment, all wrapped up in some confident fruit acidity with a delicate mineral seam. The wine is nicely balanced showcasing white grapefruit, capsicum, lemongrass and gooseberry highlighted by lively sound bites of uplifting lime zest.
Leaving just a subtle hint of natural sweetness, after fermenting the juice through to 12.5% alcohol, the wine has a bright, citrus finish that is lively and refreshing. Just what one needs as New Zealand experiences this period of extreme heat.
This 2017 zephyr ‘Marlborough’ Sauvignon Blanc has 12.5% Alc./vol. Chill gently and serve in an aromatic wine glass at 8-9°C.

A zesty Sauvignon Blanc ready to awaken your senses.
