Grape Varietal: 100% Shiraz
Growing Regions: Barossa Valley & Eden Valley, Australia
Chief Winemaker: Craig Isbel

This Torbreck wine is a blend of Shiraz from the Barossa and Eden Valleys, combining the best of both wine regions. Sourced from several elevated sites throughout both Valleys, the Struie reflects the cooler side of the region and showcases the subtle nuances that are gained from warm elevated hillside viticulture. The blend is made up from 77% Barossa Valley fruit and 23% from the Eden Valley.

The fruit parcels were harvested between the 4th March and the 17th April. The 2014 vintage was a challenging growing season, which produced lower yields providing fruit with good concentration and depth. The Eden Valley component retained its perfect natural balance and the lifted bouquet enhances this unique wine style. And the Barossa Valley parcel gives greater richness and intensity. This 2014 'Struie' Shiraz is a blend of 44-year-old Eden Valley vines and 80-year-old Barossa Shiraz vines.
The Eden Valley vineyards are situated at an altitude of between 400 and 500 metres, compared with the Barossa Valley's elevation of 200 to 300 metres. The higher altitude vineyards, ripen one to two weeks later, resulting in more distinctive varietal flavour characters, along with lower pH and higher natural fruit acidity. After a controlled fermentation of the individual parcels, the 'Struie' was aged for 20 months in a combination of old and 15% new and seasoned French oak barriques prior to bottling. After tasting and blending - the wine was assembled in October 2015 and bottled without filtration or fining in December 2015.
In the glass, you will have a deep rich red colour with a magenta hue. On the nose you are enticed by opulent dark berries, spices and dried herbs. The harmonious combination has produced a wine with generous dark fruit characters and an engaging mouth feel. Earthy spices, nuances of dark plums, black olives, lavender and ripe dark cherry characters. Which all further enhance the natural elegance and persistence of the wines quality. This wine has layered complexity and a solid core, silky textural notes and well-integrated oak, resulting in a broad, long pleasing finish.
This 2014 Torbreck ‘The Struie’ Shiraz has 15% Alc. Decant for 40-50 and serve in a generous shaped glass at 17-18°C.

A generous, old vine Barossa / Eden Valley Shiraz, with a depth of character.
