Zephyr wines embrace the dynamic spirit of the Glover family and the lively aromatics of their estate vineyards. The Glover family vineyards, were planted in 1985 alongside the meandering 'Opawa River', which has inspired the family’s passion for wine. Their viticultural and winemaking philosophy's embrace the strengths of their vineyards. Their wines showcasing classic cool climate character, along with palate depth and texture.
The name ‘Zephyr’ characterises the prevailing local winds which complement Marlborough’s unique ripening conditions, producing lively aromatic fruit off their estate vineyards. The vineyards and family are renowned aromatic specialists with a focus on Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. Being a third generation farming family meant there was a natural ability to see the potential in their land, and for planting vineyards and ultimately the production of world class wine.
The fruit for this dynamic and true varietal Riesling expression was sourced from the 'Kerseley' and 'Dillons Point' vineyards, located in the northern part of the Marlborough wine growing region. When both sites were deemed ready for harvesting, the fruit on arrival into the winery underwent simple and respectful vinification - with all decisions focusing on retaining and expressing the vibrant characters in this racy Riesling.
As you pour this inviting Riesling into your glass, you will be greeted by a pale lime green colour with a yellow glint. On the nose you will find notes of freshly cut citrus fruits, along with lime pith, green pear and floral highlights.
These characters carry through with vibrant energy on the palate, showcasing bright citrus fruits and cut apple, pears and ripe skin phenolics. The palate is ripe and delicately textural, with only a small amount of residual sugar and well balanced natural acidity resulting in a lifted, crisp and refreshing finish.
This 2014 Zephyr ‘Marlborough’ Riesling has 12.5% Alc. Chill gently and serve in an aromatic wine glass at 8-9°C.
A new world Riesling, showcasing vibrancy and balance.
