Recently I tasted the following selection of currently available Rosé wines - crafted to be a perfect pairing with; sushi, sashimi, prawns, scallops, salmon, tuna and varied vegetarian cuisine. Here are a few brief words to describe my first impressions and the essence of each wine. A versatile range ready to be shared and enjoyed over the coming summer months.

Sangiovese & Tempranillo

Region: Clare Valley, Australia

Brief Tasting Note:
A pale coral salmon colour, with an alluring aroma. Which turn into complex flavours on the palate, showcasing wild strawberries, hints of lychee and white peach characters. These soft fruits linger before a refreshing, dry finish.

‘Act Two’ Dry Pinot Noir Rosé 2017


Grape Varietal:
100% Pinot Noir

Region: Yarra Valley, Australia

Chief Winemaker: Steve Webber

Brief Tasting Note:
A pink-orange sunset colour. Aromas that turn into bright, crisp flavours of wild strawberries, and pink grapefruit characters. The palate is alive and textural, with a finish that is persistent and seriously delicious.

‘Central Otago’ Rosé 2017

100% Pinot Noir

Region: Central Otago, NZ

Brief Tasting Note:
A candy floss pink. On the nose aromas of lifted strawberries with hints of pink watermelon. A fresh, light style with those strawberries joined by hints of passion-fruit and cool watermelon and a bright, lingering off-dry finish.

Chapel Hill
‘Sangiovese’ Rosé 2017


Grape Varietal:
100% Sangiovese

Region: McLaren Vale, Australia

Senior Winemaker: Bryn Richards

Brief Tasting Note:
A dry style rosé with a core of delicious cherries. Glowing with cranberry and strawberry aromas, which explode on the palate with flavours of fresh raspberries cherries, culminating with a lingering lifted, vibrant finish.

Santa Margherita
Prosecco Rosé Brut NV


Grape Varietals:
Blended before 2nd fermentation in tank.

Region: Adige & Veneto, Italy

Head Winemaker: Massimiliano Luison

Brief Tasting Note:
A pale pink glow, with inviting aromas of floral fragrances lifted by white fruits and delicate notes of red berries. These flavours dance on the palate which has lively medium sized bubbles and a long refreshing off-dry finish.

Drappier Champagne
Rosé de Saignée Brut NV


Grape Varietal:
100% Pinot Noir - Saignée Method

Region: Urville, France

Owner / Winemaker: Michel Drappier

Brief Tasting Note:
A pale pink sunset colour. A striking rosé on the nose that carries onto the palate. Raspberries, cherries and mineral notes, with balanced hints of stoned fruits, thanks to 2-3 years bottle ageing, and a lovely lingering freshness on a dry finish.
