The fruit for this wine was sourced from several estate sites planted with a mix of Pinot Noir clones, with an average vine age of around 23 years. 2014 was a mild growing season for the area, resulting in fruit with soft aromatics, plump red berry flavours and fine fruit tannins. Resulting in a fine style wine, perfectly composed, and with good natural fruit acidity.
This Pinot Noir has an inviting aroma, with well-balanced structure, with some whole bunch parcels giving character and fine tannins to the wine. The fruit was hand harvested and then sorted at the winery. Vinification saw a combination of 80% whole berry and 20% whole bunches tipped into open fermenters. For a period of 18-22 days the juice underwent maceration and then fermentation with wild yeast strains. It was then pressed, allowed to settled overnight and then transferred into barrel by gravity, where it aged and developed for 8 months in aged French oak barriques.
As you pour this wine into your glass, you will be greeted by an inviting garnet red colour and tawny hue. Bright red fruits, lovely Pinot aromatics, notes of ripe cherries, with subtle spices and dried herbs. These carry on and develop further on the dry, medium bodied palate with hints of forest vegetation characters entwined with an alluring smooth palate of red fruits.
The controlled use of oak has integrated nicely into the wine, and balanced by soft natural grape astringency. This Pinot Noir over-delivers in depth and character, with an appealing textural feel and an elegant dry finish.
This 2014 De Bortoli ‘Yarra Valley’ Estate Grown Pinot Noir has 13.5% Alc./vol. Decant for 20-30 minutes, and serve in an appropriately shaped glass at 15-16°C.

An elegant, early drinking style Yarra Valley Pinot Noir with real appeal.
